SMEDG (Sydney Mineral Exploration Discussion Group) is a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG). Established over 50 years ago, SMEDG continues to be run by a volunteer committee. SMEDG is committed to supporting and connecting the exploration community as well as promoting geoscience education and the future minerals industry.
SMEDG hosts monthly technical talks with networking in Sydney, as well as the biannual Sydney Harbour Cruises, the biennial Awards Dinner, and jointly hosts the biennial symposium Discoveries in the Tasmanides - Mines and Wines. We support the next generation of geoscientists through our annual SMEDG Geoscience Honours Student Scholarship program and SMEDG GeoMatch, as well sponsoring student geoscience societies.
SMEDG has a treasure trove of information relating to mineral exploration featuring discovery case histories, technical presentations and publications hosted on our Resources page.
