SMEDG – Notice of Meeting

DATE: Thursday 9th September 1999 – 5.30pm for 6pm

VENUE: 1st Floor, Rugby Club, Rugby (Crane) Place, Sydney

SPEAKER: Mr. David Heberlein

TOPIC: “Diablillos: A Supergene Modified High Sulphidation Ag-Au Deposit from the Puna of NW Argentina.”

Diablillos is one of the most recent high sulphidation precious metal discoveries in Argentina. It is the only one with potentially economic mineralization discovered so far in the Puna. The presentation focuses on the geological characteristics of the deposit with emphasis on the structural controls, alteration and ore mineralogy. Unlike examples of high sulphidation systems in the SW Pacific, Diablillos has undergone at least one event of supergene oxidation, which has resulted in the development of a high-grade supergene Ag enrichment blanket.

David Hebelein has an MSc. from The University of British Columbia and has worked for 20 years in mineral exploration for a number of major mining companies in both North and South America. He is presently the General Manager for Exploraton forBarrick Gold Corporation for Chile and Argentina, responsible primarily for Exploration of the El Indio gold belt.
