SMEDG (Sydney Mineral Exploration Discussion Group), established in 1972, is a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), run by a volunteer committee to support and promote the mineral exploration industry by:

  • Providing an in-person and online forum for monthly networking and technical meetings on mineral exploration related topics presented by an invited speaker.
  • Supporting the next generation of geoscientists by awarding $10,000 in scholarships to NSW or ACT based B.Sc Honours projects in economic geology.
  • Organising two Sydney Harbour cruises each year (July and December) to bring together the mineral exploration community.
  • The co-running of the biennial ‘Discoveries In The Tasmanides‘ (previously known as Mines and Wines) conference with the Geological Survey of NSW.

All are welcome to attend the monthly meetings held at Club York, Level 2, 99 York St, Sydney (register with ID at the Club entrance on the ground floor, then take the lift to Level 2). Following the meeting, a casual dinner is often shared at the bistro on Level 1 (pay-as-you-go).

The SMEDG website’s Resources and Papers sections hosts a range of mineral exploration related information. Well worth a look through….you never know what treasure you will find!
