SMEDG SYDNEY MINERAL EXPLORATION DISCUSSION GROUP

– PREVIOUS MEETING

DATE: Monday, 27 August 1990

VENUE: Rugby Club, Crane Place, Sydney at 5.15pm
SPEAKER: DR RUSSELL FOUNTAIN, EXPLORATION MANAGER, NORD RESOURCES (PACIFIC) PTY LTD

TOPIC: THE GIRILAMBONE COPPER PROJECT

The Girilambone copper prospect north of Nyngan in New South wales is currently the subject of a mining feasibility study by Nord Resources (Pacific) Pty Ltd.

The original Girilambone Mine worked until 1917 produced about 80,000 tonnes of 2-5% Cu ore. Exploration by Utah in 1968-1973 resulted in an indicated resource of about 3 million tonnes at 2% copper. Recent drilling by Nord has indicated a substantial increase in this resource, attributed mainly to improved sampling techniques to those used by Utah.
