Who we are

SMEDG (Sydney Mineral Exploration Discussion Group), established in 1972, is a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), run by a volunteer committee to support and promote the mineral exploration industry by:

• Providing an in-person and online forum for monthly networking and technical meetings on mineral exploration related topics presented by an invited speaker.
• Supporting the next generation of geoscientists by awarding scholarships to NSW or ACT based Honours year projects in economic geology and initiating SMEDG GeoMatch to connect students, companies and universities.
• Organising two Sydney Harbour cruises each year (June and December) to bring together the mineral exploration community.
• Joint delivery of the biennial ‘Discoveries in the Tasmanides’ conference.

All are welcome to attend the monthly meetings held at Club York, Level 2, 99 York St, Sydney (register with ID at the Club entrance on the ground floor, then take the lift to Level 2). The bar opens at 5:30pm. Talks begin at 6pm and go for around 1 hour. Following the meeting, a casual dinner is often shared at the bistro on Level 1 (pay-as-you-go).
